What Is The ReLeaf Manifesto?

ReLeaf Malta, through months of consultative meetings with citizens and relevant stakeholders, has written and published a manifesto with six major objectives for the Maltese government to reach in the short term. Covering all aspects of cannabis legalisation, from access to medical cannabis to personal use and growing to the taxation and regulation system, this manifesto combines elements from some of the modern successful cannabis models found around the world. From Colorado to Spain to...

ReLeaf Meets Prime Minister Joseph Muscat

Today ReLeaf had the honour of holding our first formal meeting with Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and the second with Parliamentary Secretary Julia Farrugia Portelli to discuss cannabis legalisation in Malta. We were happy to see that medicinal cannabis - such as CBD oil - will be fully available in pharmacies in the coming months, and that we have an assurance from the government that the medicine will be maintained at an affordable price and in an accessible way.  We were also...

ReLeaf Meets Leader Of the Opposition Dr Adrian Delia

This morning we held our first meeting with the Leader of the Nationalist Party Dr. Adrian Delia.  While he and his party are on-board with medicinal use of cannabis, they have already come out against the personal use of cannabis. However, we were pleased to see that his personal opinion was much more nuanced, and that his main focus was protecting minors - a focus we as ReLeaf also have.

ReLeaf Meets Her Excellency Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

Today we had the honour of discussing cannabis legalisation in Malta with Her Excellency President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.  As someone who has social issues close to her heart, she listened to our proposals with grace and empathy, and she brought up many of the tougher issues related to cannabis legalisation, which we welcomed.  Our roundtable discussion was very positive and constructive and we look forward to meeting her again in the future to work with her on this very...

Releaf Malta Launches

ReLeaf Malta, Malta's modern cannabis legalisation movement, is officially launching. With the government of Malta showing its willingness to change the law in recent months, this organically formed organisation, many of whose members have had to hide or suffer due to their personal choices, know it is time to make their voice heard. From medicinal use to personal use to industrial use, the applications of this popular plant is well known, and we argue that it is time that Malta...

Recreational Marijuana: A Student's Approach

ReLeaf was invited to participate in 'Recreational Marijuana: A Student's Approach' organised by the Junior College Student's Council. Eric from ReLeaf was on the panel alongside a representative from Sedqa and Dr. John Ellul from the Office of the Prime Minister. We are happy to see that all three panelists were in agreement that the war on drugs has failed, and that teen use of cannabis was an issue in Malta that we had to face. Many students said they used cannabis, and it was...

President's Roundtable on Cannabis Legalisation

During the President's Roundtable on Cannabis Legalisation, ReLeaf was proud to be a positive voice in support of cannabis. While the Roundtable was a step in the right direction, and the assembled stakeholders were receptive to our arguments, it is clear that many organisations and people still have a wrong and outdated idea of what the cannabis plant is.

Medicines Authority Says That Patients Need Medical Cannabis

Medicines Authority Anthony Serracino Inglott recently went on One News to explain why we need to bring in medical cannabis. He said that “it is the duty of the authorities to listen to what the people are saying, and more than just listen, take action, and that action is seeing how to get these medicines to people.” Dr. Serracino Inglott is part of a growing medical community that includes Dr. Andrew Agius of the Pain Clinic and Dr. Godfrey Farrugia, a specialist and Parliamentary...

Dr. Alex Sciberras says criminalising cannabis is

Dr. Alex Sciberras, lawyer and son of retired Judge Philip Sciberras, has written an opinion piece in the Sunday Times of Malta on the failure of the international War on Drugs. Lamenting the billions spent on this failed war, let alone considering the human suffering that has come about due to it, he simply admits that “prohibition does not work”. All they have done is criminalise drug users, barely affect the black market and the criminal networks, and decimate communities...
